On top of the Nivolet
The Nivolet Cross, eighteen metres tall, watches over Chambéry from the east. You drive up to Pré-Japert, then walk about an hour to reach a panorama opening onto Lake Bourget, the town and, on clear days, as far as Mont Blanc. In spring, the meadows fill with wildflowers. A shared sunrise up there, a thermos in hand, is worth every speech in the world.
The Bauges, a quiet nature park
The Bauges range, a regional nature park, hides characterful villages, pastures making tome cheese, and a surprising viewpoint: the Bauges Lighthouse, in Thoiry, offers a 360-degree view. Hiking trails, from family-friendly to more challenging, change with the seasons. In winter, the gentle resorts of Aillon-le-Jeune and Le Semnoz welcome snowshoers and cross-country skiers: an ideal pause to get to know each other better.
Nights at the Carré Curial and wines of Apremont
The Carré Curial, a converted former barracks, concentrates bars, restaurants and music venues. By day, a detour through the Apremont vineyard, at the foot of Mont Granier, reveals a fresh, fragrant white wine. On Lyad, Chambéry members share their favourite summits and cellars; it is up to you to find someone to raise a glass with.
